Fluorescent microbeads are widely used for applications in life sciences and medical diagnosis. The spectral contrast and sharpness of photoluminescence are critical in the utilities of microbeads for imaging and multiplexing. Here, microbeads capable of generating single-peak laser emission with a sub-nanometer linewidth are demonstrated. The microbeads are made of quantum dots that are tightly packed and crosslinked via ligand exchange for high optical gain and refractive index as well as material stability. Bright single-mode lasing with no photobleaching is achieved with particle diameters as small as 1.5 µm in the air. Sub-nm lasing emission is maintained even inside high-index surroundings, such as organic solvents and biological tissues. Feasibility of intracellular tagging and multi-color imaging in vivo is demonstrated. 相似文献

This white paper is the result of discussions during the FIPSE-4 conference ( http://fi-in-pse.org ) in June 2018. It aims to highlight open problems and provide directions for future research in the area of water with emphasis on its agricultural usages. Some of the open problems discussed are: (a) the use of ecosystems as unit operations to understand their role in providing freshwater and in cleaning polluted water; (b) consideration of interactions and independencies between flows of water and other resources, such as food, energy, materials, ecosystem services, and environmental emissions; (c) challenges in modeling, sensing, and closed-loop control in precision irrigation. Spark plasma sintering (SPS) was employed to consolidate powder specimens consisting of B4C and various B4C-TiB2 compositions. SPS allowed for consolidation of pure B4C, B4C-13 vol.%TiB2, and B4C-23 vol.%TiB2 composites achieving ≥99 % theoretical density without sintering additives, residual phases (e.g., graphite), and excessive grain growth due to long sintering times. Electron and x-ray microscopies determined homogeneous microstructures along with excellent distribution of TiB2 phase in both small and larger-scaled composites. An optimized B4C-23 vol.%TiB2 composite with a targeted low density of ~3.0 g/cm3 exhibited 30–35 % increased hardness, fracture toughness, and flexural bend strength compared to several commercial armor-grade ceramics, with the flexural strength being strain rate insensitive under quasistatic and dynamic loading. Mechanistic studies determined that the improvements are a result of a) no residual graphitic carbon in the composites, b) interfacial microcrack toughening due to thermal expansion coefficient differences placing the B4C matrix in compression and TiB2 phase in tension, and c) TiB2 phase aids in crack deflection thereby increasing the amount of intergranular fracture. Collectively, the addition of TiB2 serves as a toughening and strengthening phase, and scaling of SPS samples show promise for the manufacture of ceramic composites for body armor. 相似文献

We investigated some properties of the hydride Mg2FeH6 substituted with yttrium by a first principles calculation. Some experimental results showed that 4d transition metal, yttrium serves as a good catalyst for magnesium based hydrogen storage alloys, but there are a few theoretical studies about magnesium based hydrides substituted with it. Mg2FeH6 is regarded as a cheaper material than pure MgH2, while it is crystalized into Fm3m structure (space group 225). Although it has high hydrogen storage capacity, many investigations have not been devoted to it due to its extremely high thermodynamic stability. The yttrium substituted Mg2FeH6 exhibits very low energy of formation, and its desorption temperature, 75 °C is very suitable for practical hydrogen storage applications. Our results showed that Mg2FeH6 is destabilized effectively by yttrium substitution and introducing vacancy defects has additive effect to the improvement of dehydrogenation performance. 相似文献
